Long Live McQueen!
For a man who has been practically working in the fashion industry since the age of 16, Alexander McQueen seems to get bigger by the year. From his early years on Savile Row, making suits for the Prince of Wales, Prince Charles to traveling to and working in Milan, returning to the UK in 1994 to start studying Fashion, only to end up doing his Masters because of his vast experience, working for leading brand Givenchy as a head designer, this design muse has almost done it all.
After winning the British Designer of the Year four times as well as International Designer of the year, his career shot upwards and gave him several partnership opportunities such as the 51% acquisition of McQueen by the Gucci group, in which he is the creative director of the company. He has since collaborated with Puma to create a collection of sneakers and MAC cosmetics to create the McQueen Collection under the leading cosmetics brand.
In 1998, target announced McQueen as one of its first designers to create designer collections as collaborations with the store in which the McQ line offers a young and vivacious collection that appeals to the masses. His perfume collection has become one of the most sought after fragrances, with MyQueen being one of the UK’s leading perfumes to date.
McQueen’s signature clutch collection with its skull-shaped clasp closure is quickly becoming a cult classic (almost literally)…I love the bags, but I am yet to understand what the skull is all about. Nonetheless, the most street-smashing clutch I have seen years. There will always be more from McQueen….
