BWR Bag – All about GUTS

No guts, not glory.  No guts, no lining or pockets in the handbag!  :)  This is an update as to all I got accomplished on Donna’s BWR Bag from Hotpatterns.com.

These are the front and back insides “guts” before the darts got taken in around the edges.  Yes, the lining is leaves, my fave, and there’s a leaf zipper pull on the closed pocket.  Can’t see the pocket well on the right ‘gut’, but it’s pleated and open for a cell phone.

And here are the guts/lining with darts sewn and bottom all put together.  Yes, I stuck one of my labels in it even though it’s not my design.  Can’t ever let my sis (if she takes this one) forget who made it!

This is a boring photo, but the handle is absolutely the BEST HANDLE DESIGN EVER!!!!!!!!  I read and re-read those directions last night, over and over and over…. I was just not getting it.  But today it all made sense and Trudy’s technique was well worth the puzzle in my head.  It’s PERFECT!

As my sis did not want a bow on the front, figured we’d try a big button!  It’ll grow on me, but my sis is definitely not a bow person.  This is a lot cleaner a look for her.  The bottoms are not sewn together yet because I’m POOPED!  And I need to purchase a decent zipper foot as the one that came with my machine is totally worthless.  So the next step (duh) is putting in the zipper at the top.

This is definitely not a bag for a beginner.  In the drawing on the pattern front, it looked fairly flat and more quilt-like.  But this will end up having an actual ‘bottom’ to it with all the darts and snips and this and that.  It is definitely NOT a Simplicity or McCall’s pattern.  There’s more detail to the product than the drawing on the pattern envelope.

This may sit for a few days now since every sewing center is half way across town from us.
