Business in the front, party in the back
Business in the front:
Thanks to everyone for all the comments on the last few posts! I am incredibly humbled by all the kind words. It really means a lot to me that you take the time out of your day to read my random thoughts.
I know I promised a “big reveal” this week for my etsy shop, but I’m not ready to show off the handbags I’ve been teasing you with this week. I know, I know, this is no way to build trust. I feel like I have broken an unspoken blogger rule. But, I have a really good excuse.
Cue the doomsday music; I broke my sewing machine. (I’ll give you time to really let this fact sink in. I know, I was near tears myself.) In the words of Ron Burgandy, this is kind of a big deal. I can’t exactly make things to sell on my shop without a machine on which to sew said things. Technically, it is still functional. But every time I try to sew over more than three layers of fabric (which is pretty much all the time), it jams and the needle breaks. I tried to mess with all the knobs (hehe) yesterday, but I can’t seem to figure it out. Does anyone have any ideas what might be wrong?
Serendipitously, I ordered this sewing machine 5 days ago, which is to be delivered in 7-10 business days. For Little Miss Impatient over here, this is an eternity, so I am going to try to borrow my friend’s machine this weekend and hopefully, really crank out the goods.

“Singer 7463 Confidence 30-Stitch Electronic Sewing Machine” (Singer Sewing Co.)
In the meantime, I’ve been cutting up a storm. I have some things ready for sale at the shop (some coffee cozies, adult half aprons, and some kids aprons). I have a few more aprons cut and ready to sew, a few of those handbags, and a couple more wrap skirts cut and ready to sew. I think that is all I am going to make to start with. Is there anything you’ve seen on this blog that you think I can and should sell? I was considering making some yoga mat bags too.
So, in lieu of a big reveal of the bags (they are WAY too thick to sew on my machine), I’ll reveal the adult half aprons I’ve made.

See, told you I was sewing, and not just wasting time. (Though, truth be told, I am excited to get back to time-wasting as soon as the shop is up and running. I am a champion procrastinator, and all this productivity is starting to mess with my psyche.) The photos aren’t the best, but I feel kind of funny asking a friend to come over to take photos of me “modeling” them. The self-timer will have to do for now. The aprons are all made as variations on one theme. Its simple and cute, and I think it let’s the fabric really stand out. I’m not into too many embellishments, and trims and what-nots.
I confess that I still feel really funny about this whole thing. Maybe it’s my pride and insecurity talking, but I will be really embarrassed if this whole thing turns out to be a flop. But, like I said to my sister a couple days ago; if worse comes to worse, I’ll have a stockpile of birthday and Christmas gifts for the next couple years!
Party in the back:
I loved getting this comic in my inbox this morning. It is completely unrelated, but too perfect for me right now.
And another, because I broke my promise to you.
