Hometown Hero

I grew up in a small city called London Ontario, where the people were fairly conservative.  There,  I would shop with my mother who was highly fashionable and had been featured in the local London Free Press for fashion spotting.  She always had very good taste and a keen sense of colour combination.  As a young girl she would often take me shopping to the local, funky boutiques that were tailored for us “risky types” and would develop good trust with local trends and shop owners.  I would always be so fascinated with the amazing clothing and accessories she would buy, so much that I would be stimulated by clothing and style as I grew up.  I remember one of the designers being called Weezi, and both my mother and I would would scout for her label because we knew Weezi was good quality and that it was ahead of its time in the fashion industry. Stuff that just made you happy by seeing it.

I was always so inspired by Weezi, her ambition, designs and knowledge of colour stimulus (it is very scientific you know) Her designs continue to amaze me and everyone around her!

Anyways after all these years and hard work later Weezi has been gracious enough to house some of my fine vintage inspired hair pieces and I could’t be more excited!  If you have not yet been to Weezi’s store, then you should be ashamed..or you can simply go in and say ‘hi”…it’s never too late to spoil yourself!  Be sure to pop into Prince Albert’s Diner after shopping (located right beside Weezi)where you can find my favourite little place in the world to eat!  Awesome crowd, staff, food and music!

Look for my pieces early April!

YES Sir! NO Sir!

Wearing this military jacket from Coco makes me feel all, well… all military. So a lot of “YES Sirs” and “NO Sirs” and saluting—whatever. And La Gyo’s Unico hat….sort of military goes sparkley. I guess the shoes aren’t very military, I can’t see anyone doing maneuvers in heels this high but they are cute aren’t they? Also from La Gyo, the cute, vintagey-looking necklace with the antique car picture and little white ribbon on it.  The purse and belt are both from YS&YS …great design, well-fitted, textured and sculpted. I know I talk about quality a lot but if something is not well-done, what is the point? We are in a pixel world here and there are so many talented designers out there now that we don’t have to settle for anything less than great. Not much more to say, oh except “At Ease!”

Epiphanie Bags & Why I Love ‘Em

Normally I don’t post twice in one week, but the chance at winning one of these bags at www.beyond-snapshots.com or a Canon 5D Mark II made it worth it. The airline coupon wouldn’t be bad either. Maybe then I’d get to see some more of Europe! :-) Anyways, here’s why I want to win one of these bags:

Let’s just say that I think these bags are genius. I bought a giant brown purse from Maurice’s about a year ago so that I could carry my camera in the same bag as my wallet, but it’s obnoxious, and there’s hardly any protection for my camera in there. (Just imagine: it’s in the same pocket as my keys!)

So, when I found the Epiphanie bags site, I fell in love. Not only are they big enough to hold both my camera and my purse items, but it also looks more like a purse than a camera bag. How great is that? Every other camera bag I’ve found is so blah and looks like a guy should carry it.

Now I really want one … but it’s being put on my “wants” list rather than my “needs” list until I can figure out where I’m getting the money to pay for it.

So, here are the photos I’m deciding between for the red bag contest. I need votes to decide which one I want to post for the contest:

Love Her Look: Kim Kardashian

I conveniently downloaded a virus on my laptop today so I can’t properly publish today’s real posts (all about shoes) just yet.  However, I thought I’d post this lovely picture of Kim Kardashian wearing a perfect Springtime outfit, in the interim.  This look is understated chic and I need every piece of it in my wardrobe.  I’d actually just settle for the Balenciaga handbag.

Support artists by buying at Auctions

GV Art Auctions Organization to support American artists has created an auctions website to benefit artists now.

The problems artists have!

I have met and spoke with at least a couple hundred artists over the past year.  I’ve noticed that they have one major concern: to sell their artwork.  Selling artwork is usually not an easy task for an artist.  One must be knowledgeable and persistent with marketing and promotion to even get noticed.  What artist has time for that?  Most of them have full-time jobs to pay their bills. They paint, draw, and sculpt in their free time.  Marketing and promotion is so very time consuming that most artists are overwhelmed by the task and skip that step.  Some artists have the finances to hire an agent to promote their work for them; however most artists are looking to make money and not to spend it on their career.  Showing artwork in art galleries is a great way to add to one’s resume and gain some exposure. Unfortunately, the exposure is fairly localized.

Solution?

Art Auctions. Why not?  Artwork can get viewed nationwide rather than in just one city. Auctions are fun.  Who doesn’t like the feeling of being the winning bidder?  Or the feeling of making money on a piece that you have created?

In my experience with auctions, I have found that auction sites each have their own set of rules, fees, commissions, etc.  Some sites are not completely clear in what they charge for commissions.  Often, they explain a sliding scale (which is confusing BTW) and charge fees to list an item.  Sites like ebay are great in some ways (such as the number of viewers they get) and not so great in other ways (millions of  non art-related products, listing fees, confusing commission scale . . .).  What we have tried to create is an auction site dedicated to art and art-related items ONLY.  Listings are FREE.  Memberships are also free.  Why do we not charge for listings, you ask?  Well, we created this site to help artists, not to dig into their pockets.  We want to encourage artists and collectors to use our site, so basically everything is free until an item gets purchased.  Our commission from the auctioneer is a simple 12% of the final selling price.  That’s it.  Have you ever looked up the fees from ebay?  Holy itemized list of charges from every angle, Batman!  Here’s a link to their page of fees– http://pages.ebay.com/help/sell/fees.html

Note to Artists

Please try us.  There’s absolutely no risk and no charge if your item does not sell.
How to list an item:

Auctions last for 7 days.  You many republish expired auctions simply by logging in, selecting your expired auction, and click “republish.”  You may also cancel your active auction at any time for any reason.

Note to Collectors

When you bid on/purchase an item listed on our site, you are helping to support artists.  Since our fees to the artist/auctioneer are simple and minimal, the artist receives nearly all of the profit.  Why do we do this?  We’re artists too.  We know how difficult it can be to create quality artwork, promote our artwork, and find buyers.  We’re sensitive to this.  We want to support artists who create quality works.  We require everyone to register with us (free) and log in to view the auctions.  This is solely for the privacy of the artists/auctioneers.  Our users’ privacy is important to us.  Please visit us and see what we have to offer.  You may find a new piece of artwork for your home!
