MURVAL designer handbags. No Conundrum.For the first time in my life I find myself in a position where I am able to seriously contemplate buying a Coach purse. This being Dallas, a designer purse is, apparently, one of life’s necessities. Most of my coworkers sport some fancy name bag; even my sister has a Coach and a Dooney & Burke purse.
I feel conflicted about this. On the one hand, I like them. I think they’re pretty, classy, and high quality. And working where I do now, in the heart of corporate America, my wardrobe has had to undergo some adjustments, and a snazzy purse would certainly make me look like I fit in more. Also they stay in style forever–just look at Louis Vuitton (I refuse to buy one of those; they are just too over the top). I’ve always had a bit of a crush on Coach purses anyway.
But on the other hand, what about my deeply held principle of not wanting to look like everybody else? Not to mention designer purses aren’t very goth-y, and the fact that I’ve always felt something like disdain towards people who insist on parading around with visible evidence of disposable cash slung over their shoulders. Plus, I don’t know anything about where these purses are made; what if they’re made in South American sweatshops or something? Somehow all my ideals about supporting local everything and not spending ridiculous amounts of money on apparently frivolous things like this.
So does all this make me a hypocrite? Am I spending way too much time worrying about it? I mean, in the long run, does it matter what brand of purse I carry?
But just for the record, here’s a picture of the purse I’m thinking of getting. Pretty, isn’t it?

Shoe designers featured upstairs will include Jeffrey Campbell, Modern Vintage, Sam Edelman, Pink Studio, Ugg and Hunter. Handbags by vegan designers Matt & Nat and
Melie Bianco will also be carried in the new ladies’ lounge.Renovations for the store are currently underway, with completion expected by mid-May. A grand opening event will be scheduled for June. Mary Jane’s is located at 613 Main Street. Store hours are Monday through Thursday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
